Career Services for Alumni
The Department of Career Development & Experiential Learning (CDEL) can help alumni in the process of advancing their careers and learning new skills. For more information about the following services please visit Career Development & Experiential Learning's website.
Assistance with Résumé & Cover Letter Development
If you don't have a résumé or have never written a cover letter, drop by CDEL for assistance from our knowledgeable staff or to take a look at one of our many reference books.
Résumé & Cover Letter Critiquing
Research has shown that employers, on average, give a resume and cover letter only 10-15 seconds of attention. You can't afford to miss out. Let one of our staff take a look at your résumé and provide you with feedback.
Mock Interviews
Inexperienced in interviews? Come in for some practice. We invite students and alumni to make an appointment to practice interview skills and techniques in a "mock interview." Sessions are taken seriously so that staff can fairly assess performance. Feedback is provided to encourage positive interview behaviour while identifying and correcting areas for improvement.
Job Search Consultations
Do you need help in starting your job search or determining your personal sales pitch? Our staff members are available for guidance. One-on-one consultations can provide you with direction while easing some of the stress that accompanies career decisions.
Looking for employment? Whether you are looking for your first job or a change of scenery, you may find opportunities through our job posting board found in our My MUNlife portal. There are opportunities posted from local, national and international employers.
Career Planning
Are you unsure of what careers you can pursue with your degree? Are you looking for information on a particular occupation or industry? We can help you locate the resources you need to make your career decisions.
Log in to access hundreds of job profiles. View multi-media interviews from individuals in the field. Take the match-maker test to determine how your personal interests correspond with various career options.
Career Portfolio Planning
Portfolios are not just for artists, architects, or advertising planners. Anyone can build a portfolio to display his or her talents and experiences. In fact, portfolios are an ideal way to demonstrate to potential employers the depth of skills you possess with samples of your work. Portfolios can be on paper or electronic to suit your needs and interests. We can help you get started with your career portfolio.
Videoconferencing Access for Interviews
Our in-house videoconferencing at the Career Centre suite is available to students and alumni wishing to have an interview at a distance - within the province, the country or anywhere in the world. Bookings must be arranged at least one week in advance to allow for site testing and confirmation.
Access to Career Events
Our annual Career & Graduate School Fair and Career Fair: Online Edition! may be worth checking out if you are looking for employment opportunities or career guidance. The Career & Graduate School Fair takes place during the fall semester and brings together 100+ recruiters from across Canada for students and alumni to engage with. The Career Fair: Online Edition!, a high-tech event, takes place during the winter semester and gives students and alumni the opportunity to access job postings online and review profile pages from both employers and higher learning institutions.
Inviting Environment
We offer a comfortable environment where students and alumni can browse hard-copy resources at their leisure, as well as take advantage of our computers to access career-related resources through the Internet.
