25th Annual Golf Tournament
The 25th Annual Golf Tournament was held on June 28th, 2007 at Terra Nova National Park. Organized by Memorial alumni Keith Smith, B.Comm Co-op ’85, Jim Mason, MBA ’91, and Mike Goodridge, B.Comm Co-op ’87, this exciting event was successful in reconnecting Memorial alumni and friends with a day of golf, a BBQ lunch and prizes.

Newfoundland and Labrador Calgary Affinity Dinner 2007
Rick Mercer, with General Rick Hillier as guest speaker, was the Master of Ceremonies during the Newfoundland and Labrador Affinity Dinner. Held at the Calgary Petroleum Club on June 6, 2007, the event helped to raise over $70,000 in Memorial scholarships.

MUN Chamber Choir - Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto, ON
On February 25, 2007, at the CBC Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, angels descended from heaven – or at least, it sounded like heaven. The award-winning MUN Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Douglas Dunsmore gave a very moving concert entitled Angels from Heaven Come.

Alumna Michelle Snow B.Econ’96 led by example during the Dining Etiquette Dinner held at R. Gushue Hall on February 7. An appetizing dinner was served by Chartwells as Michelle walked through the various stages of a social evening – from networking to dessert and all stages in between.

National Art Gallery of Canada
Approximately 50 Memorial University alumni and friends gathered at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa on November 9th to hear fellow alumna Crystal Parsons B.Comm.’01 talk about her upcoming exhibition centered on fellow Newfoundlander and renowned artist, Maurice Cullen (1866-1934). Ms. Parsons is the first Newfoundlander to be selected as a Guest Curator at the National Gallery.

Toronto - Annual Affinity Newfoundland and Labrador Dinner
On November 15, 2006 the Toronto Chapter of the Alumni Association hosted the 2nd Annual Affinity Newfoundland and Labrador Dinner at the Marriott Yorkville. Almost 100 alumni and friends turned out to hear the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador the Honourable Ed Roberts speak about the 90th Anniversary of Beaumont Hamel. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was actor and comedian Mr. Jonny Harris BFA ’99.

Harlow’s 2nd Annual Affinity Newfoundland and Labrador dinner was held on October 13, 2006 at the House of Commons in London, England. Memorial University Alumni and Friends came together to build awareness and support for Memorial University, the province and our Harlow Campus. Distinguished guests included Mr. Bill Rammell, Harlow MP, Dr. Axel Meisen, President and Vice-Chancellor, Memorial University and guest speaker, Mr. James R. Wright, High Commissioner for Canada.

24th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament
The 24th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament was held at the Terra Nova Golf Resort on Thursday, June 29th, 2006. Carolyn Bennett and Neil Jacobs walked away with bragging rights as the top female and top male golfer. The winners were presented with a trophy and plaque by Michael Goodridge of Johnson Insurance, a major sponsor of this event. In addition, there were five winners of the ‘Closest to the Hole’ contest plus all participants were given the opportunity to pick from the prize table. No one went home empty handed!

5th Annual Wine Tasting - St. John’s Chapter
On Friday, May 5, 2006 the St. John's Alumni Chapter of Memorial University presented its 5th Annual Wine Tasting Evening. As Host, alumnus and past-president, Dr. Arthur May guided the attendees on a tour of the fine wines of Italy. This year’s premier selection included Tuscany’s Banfi Summus and new to the market, Placido Pinot Grigio. The evening also featured a serenade from the School of Music.

13th Annual Bowling Tournament - Clarenville Chapter
The Clarenville Chapter of the Alumni Association raised over $900 at the Annual Bowling Tournament on March 31st at Caribou Lanes in Clarenville. The winning Team #9, with a total score of 1863, consisted of Herb Whiffen, Owen Hiscock, Everett Penney, Janet Abbott, and Trudy Gosse. The top male bowler, with a score of 290, was Andre Sauvageau and the top female bowler, with a score of 287, was Trudy Gosse. Congratulations to all!
